JLNT Antasari Often Becomes A Wild Racing Track, Police Call The Perpetrators Challenged Via Social Media

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Metro Police (Polres) has tightened patrols along the Antasari Non-Toll Flyover (JLNT), South Jakarta, to prevent the actions of youths who are still racing wildly using motorbikes.

Head of Samapta Polres Metro South Jakarta AKBP Rosa Witarsa explained that illegal racing was still happening because of an invitation through social media. Most recently, there was a young man who was prosecuted by the Precision Patrol Team at that location for carrying out illegal racing on Tuesday night, September 5.

"Indeed, if the condition was quiet that night, then this would be the attention of the police chief to prioritize patrols on the Antasari flyover," said Rosa in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Rosa said the officers who would be focused on conducting patrols at JLNT Antasari were the South Jakarta Metro Police Precision Patrol Team. They, he said, would routinely follow the flyover every night to anticipate the illegal racing.

If found, then according to him, the youths who carried out illegal racing would be reprimanded and ordered to return to their respective homes. The officers, he said, would follow the illegal racing actor until he came down from JLNT Antasari.

"Sometimes they also cat and mouse with my team in the field, they say yes, yes, I go home, but they come back again," he said.

If they continue to carry out illegal racing even though they have been disbanded, then according to him the police will secure the perpetrators of the illegal racing and be taken to the South Jakarta Metro Police office.

"If they are still stubborn, fussy, they will be taken to the police station. We will take action through traffic units, maybe a ticket or something else," he said.

Rosa said the illegal racing action carried out by youths at JLNT Antasari was dangerous because the flyover was long and had corners, and had heights. In addition, according to him, illegal racing can also endanger other road users.

"Some time we have secured three people, but old officials also often secure the illegal racing," said Rosa.
