Thousands Of Demonstration Masses In France Ask Consent In Rape To Be Clarified In Law

JAKARTA - Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in major French cities against violence targeting women.

The demonstrators also called for a firm formulation of the absence of consent or consent element as stated in the French law.

They asked lawmakers to clarify a legal definition of rape that reads "Any act of sexual penetration... with violence, coercion, threats, or surprises" without coverage of elements of absence of consent.

Points on the constitutional revision have been the main demands of French women's rights groups, especially since the MeToo movement was launched in the late 2010s.

"Just because someone doesn't say something, doesn't mean they agree," said Marie-Claire Abiker, 78, a retired nurse at the demonstration in Paris, quoted by AFP.

The group of women activists involved in the demonstration which was held on Saturday, November 23 local time, also urged his country to highlight the trial of the mass rape case in Avmen.

The case that shocked the French public was in the final stages of the prosecution agenda trial. A total of 51 men were charged with sexual violence and rape of a woman at the victim's house.

The husband of the victim is also a defendant. He invited the dozens of defendants to his house to commit lecherous acts against his wife who had been tortured for the past decade or so.

On the streets, an elected official from the Indre-et-Loire region of western France, totaling Plou, said the growing number of protesters involved were getting closer to their voices being heard by lawmakers.

"The more we are, the more we look at. This is everyone's problem, not just women," said God in the middle of the crowd.
