MATARAM - A couple who is a suspect in the alleged abortion case underwent a marriage at the Mataram City Police Office (Polresta), West Nusa Tenggara. Mataram Police Chief Kombes Mustofa said the marriage of suspect H (39) with his girlfriend N (36) was a follow-up to the family's proposal and had received a letter of application from the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). "Therefore, we from the PPA Unit of the Mataram Police Satreskrim provide assistance by providing space for the second marriage process," said Mustofa in Mataram, Antara, Tuesday, May 2. He said that his party facilitated the marriage of the two suspects at the Mataram Police Mushala on Monday. In the sacred event, he explained, family, guardians and village officials from each suspect were also present. Furthermore, the Head of the Mataram Police Satreskrim Kompol I Made Yogi Purusa Utama said the handling of the cases of the two suspects is now under investigation. "Investigators are still waiting for the results of the research files by the prosecutor's office," he said With this marriage, Yogi assured that the marriage documents of the two suspects would be attached in a court file. "According to the requests of the lawyers of the two suspects, we will attach the marriage documents in the case file for trial needs," he said. The alleged abortion case was revealed at the end of 2022. The police handled this case after receiving a report from the hospital in Mataram City. In the report, the hospital found that there were patients with the emergency unit (UGD) who had a miscarriage. After going through the initial interrogation process, it was revealed that the woman, namely suspect N, had taken drugs to abort the pregnancy. "The drug (the abortion) was drunk based on the agreement of the two suspects. The man promised to marry after the woman aborts her pregnancy," said Yogi.

As suspects, both of them are subject to allegations of Article 348 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
