BANDUNG - Indra Lesmana again appeared at the Gedebage Jazz Festival International which was held at the Summarecon Mall Bandung on Saturday, June 27.
The Indonesian jazz maestro performed for the third time in this event, bringing a special concept called Sydney Reunion, with Dale Barlow (saxophone), Steve Hunter (bass), and Andy Gander (drums).
Speaking in front of thousands of spectators who filled the main stage area of Sawarga Courtyard, Indra said that Sydney Reunion was his reunion with three jazz musicians from Australia whom he met while studying music in Sydney.
"We all met from me at the age of 15. So the Sydney Reunion is my meeting with them after about 40 years, and finally we are playing music together again," said Indra.
He also explained that his colleagues were musicians who had great respect in the jazz music world, ranging from Andy Gander who was a doctor in the field of drums and a professor at the Southern Cross University School of Pop Music, as well as Dale Barlow who had traveled the world to perform with many jazz musicians.
"It's not easy to put the four of us in an event like this. I'm very grateful. And hopefully next year's Gedebage Jazz Festival will be more international," said Indra.
In his performance, Sidney Reunion performed a number of numbers from the self-titled album released in 2024, including "A Time for Everything", "Fairlight", "Cloud of Thoughts", and "A Night Indonesia".
As a regular lineup of the Gedebage Jazz Festival, Indra also expressed his high appreciation for the Summarecon Mall Bandung as the organizer. This is because he knows very well, consistently holding a jazz music festival by presenting a lineup dominated by jazz musicians is not an easy task.
"Thank you to Summarecon Mall Bandung. It's rare for malls to have music festivals, let alone jazz festivals. So this is an extraordinary thing," he said.
Indra added, the consistency of the organizers, the crew involved, and the presence of all the audience, is an inseparable part of the music ecosystem itself.
"The music ecosystem is not just what you hear from the performer, but these people behind the scenes work very hard. And that, I think, is part of the ecosystem," said Indra.
"From the engineers, from the lighting people, from the video people, from the monitor people, from the stage crew, from the photographer, this is all part of the music industry. So, your support is support for the Indonesian music industry," he concluded.
In addition to Indra Lesmana Sydney Reunion, the main stage of the first day of the Gedebage Jazz Festival International 2026 also presents Barry Likumahuwa & The Rhythm Service, Saung Angklung Udjo, Andrea Cui and Julian Chan ft. KLCBS Project, Syaharani ft. Bandung Jazz Orchestra, and Dewa 19 ft. Virzha.
The Gedebage Jazz Festival International 2026 is still going on until today. The main stage will feature B.A.E, Takahiro Miyazaki, Krakatau, Erwin Gutawa tribute to January Christy, Jazzbois, to Maliq & D'Essentials.
