JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture has revitalized around 159 cultural assets in the midst of budget efficiency policies. One of them is the Ahmad Tohari Literary House and Library in Banyumas, Central Java.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said that the improvement of cultural assets continued because the literacy space and cultural pockets were still needed by the community.
"Although we are carrying out efficiency, we can revitalize around 159 cultural assets, both cultural heritage sites and cultural pockets," said Fadli when inaugurating the arrangement of the Ahmad Tohari Library and Library, Saturday, June 27.
According to Fadli, Ahmad Tohari has built a living literacy space. The reading house is a place for students, students, and the general public to read, discuss, and get to know literature more closely.
"Mr. Ahmad Tohari initiated a cultural pocket that motivates young generations to read, a kind of literacy center," he said.
Fadli said the Ahmad Tohari Literary House not only stores the traces of a literary person. The place is also a study room and a source of inspiration for the public.
He also paid tribute to Ahmad Tohari for his contribution to Indonesian literature. Through works such as Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk, Ahmad Tohari raised the life of the Banyumas community, local traditions, human values, and the uniqueness of the Banyumasan language.
The work was also adapted into the film Sang Penari, which made the Banyumas culture more widely known.
Fadli said literature has an important role in recording history, building the character of the nation, and strengthening cultural diplomacy. However, he assessed that Indonesian literary works still face major challenges because they have not reached many international readers.
To answer this challenge, the Ministry of Culture has prepared a number of programs. Among them are the Translator and Literature Promoter Laboratory, Translation of Literary Works, Strengthening Communities and Literature Festivals, National Talent Management in the Field of Literature, and the Development of Literature Based on Intellectual Property.
According to Fadli, the wealth of Indonesian culture must be managed together by the central government, local governments, villages, communities, businesses, and the public. The goal is that culture is not only cared for, but can also become an economic force.
Ahmad Tohari welcomed the revitalization. He said that the library he managed was often visited and became a space for cross-generational discussions.
Fadli hopes that the Ahmad Tohari Library and Literary House will continue to be a living library, as well as a cultural pocket that produces cultural activities in a sustainable manner.
