Galaxy A27 5G Launched, More Modern Design but Water Resistance Down

JAKARTA - Samsung introduced the Galaxy A27 5G with a more modern screen design and a new chipset. However, the update is relatively light because most of the specifications still maintain the Galaxy A26, while the water resistance certification actually drops one level.

Launching GSMArena Friday, June 26, the Galaxy A27 5G still carries a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The most striking change is to the front camera. The water drop-shaped notch is now replaced with a punch hole or a small hole in the screen so that the display looks cleaner. Samsung also thinned the bezel around the screen.

In the performance sector, the Galaxy A27 is now powered by the 4 nanometer technology Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. This chip is claimed to offer performance improvements of around 10 to 20 percent compared to the 5 nanometer technology Exynos 1380 used by the Galaxy A26. Samsung says the improvement makes the phone more responsive for everyday use.

The battery capacity remains at 5,000 mAh with 25W fast charging support. For photography, the Galaxy A27 is equipped with a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which helps reduce shake when taking photos or recording videos. This phone also has a 5MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 12MP front camera.

There is one change that may be of concern to prospective buyers. The Galaxy A27 only has an IP64 certification, down from IP67 on the Galaxy A26. IP64 means the phone is dust and water resistant, but is not designed to survive if submerged in water like devices with IP67 certification.

Samsung promises six Android operating system updates and security updates for up to six years.

The Galaxy A27 went on sale on July 3 with Black, Blue, Light Green, and Light Pink color options. Its memory variants consist of 6/128GB, 8/128GB, and 8/256GB.

According to GSMArena, changes to the Galaxy A27 focus more on refreshing the design and improving performance, while most of the other specifications still maintain the previous generation configuration.
