JAKARTA - There has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in the capital after the Christmas and New Year holidays, along with the entry of variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron.

Even so, Deputy Governor of DKI, Ahmad Riza Patria, emphasized that the increase in cases was not due to the government's weak supervision of health protocols.

Bearing in mind, said Riza, the government has issued regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, both for the mobility of people within the country and the entry of travelers from abroad.

"It's not a lack of supervision. So, everything has been conveyed. We made regulations, asking not to leave the country. Even if they are forced to leave because of tasks that cannot be left behind, they must meet the requirements and so on," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, January 11.

Quarantine rules for foreign travelers have also been implemented by conducting PCR tests, both before and after quarantine. However, now Omicron has spread via local transmission.

Therefore, no matter what, Riza asked the public to remain vigilant about the transmission of the virus. "Everyone is careful, especially in areas that have the potential for Omicron. Even though this is not a dangerous variant, it should not be taken lightly and remain vigilant," said Riza.

For information, there were an additional 360 daily cases of COVID-19 in the capital city as of January 10, of which 259 cases were overseas travelers.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases is now as many as 2.129 people who are still being treated or isolated. A total of 1.603 people from the number of active cases are foreign travelers.

Currently, there are 407 Omicron cases recorded in Jakarta. As many as 86 percent or 350 people are foreign travelers, while the other 57 are local transmissions.
