JAKARTA - French President Emmanuel Macron said Israel's military strategy in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank is against Israel's own interests because it fuels hatred and violence.

In an interview with France 2 television on Thursday (18/6), Macron said US President Donald Trump was right when he asked Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu to "show responsibility."

He stressed that Israel's security could not be guaranteed through occupation or domination of territory in its neighboring countries.

"The strategy that (Netanyahu) continues to implement in Gaza, the West Bank, and southern Lebanon in the long term is contrary to Israel's interests because it fuels hatred and violence among the people in the region," Macron said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, June 18.

He again stressed the importance of the newly signed Iranian peace agreement for Lebanon.

"We will immediately mobilize the international community to help the Lebanese army regain control of its territory," he said.

Macron emphasized that the conflict with Iran had not completely ended even though an agreement had been reached. He stated that a new phase of cooperation and dialogue had now begun.

"It's always better to have an agreement than a war, especially when there is a risk of escalation, and that's what happened," he said.

"We cannot achieve regime change through bombing," Macron said.
