JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said Washington needed to keep Israeli Authority Chief Benjamin Netanyahu "a little sane" in dealing with the situation in Lebanon.

Although he described his relationship with Netanyahu as a "good" relationship, Trump claimed he could control Israel's military actions in Lebanon because officials in the country "do what Trump says."

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Trump emphasized the superiority of the US military by saying that Washington provided "weapons" and B-2 stealth bombers to Israel.

He also claimed that without his intervention, Israel would be "destroyed", repeating his statement earlier this week "without the United States, there would be no Israel."

Earlier this week, Trump revealed that he had advised Netanyahu to take a "softer" approach in Lebanon.

According to him, Israel does not need to "demolish a building every time someone from Hezbollah enters it," referring to Israel's frequent air raids targeting Lebanon, including residential areas.

Trump's latest statement came alongside the announcement of a new ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that took effect on Friday at 16:00 local time.

The agreement was reached after an escalation of the conflict that killed 47 people in southern Lebanon and four Israeli soldiers since early Friday.

Based on official data, Israel's military operations in Lebanon since March 2 have killed 3,912 people, injured 11,873 others, and forced more than a million residents to flee.

Israel still occupies a number of areas in southern Lebanon, some of which have been occupied for decades and others since the outbreak of the latest conflict.

In recent military operations, Israeli forces have reportedly advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory.
