Bahar Smith Responds To The Call Of The West Java Police Regarding The Investigation Of Hate Speech Cases

BANDUNG - Lecturer Bahar Smith visited the West Java Police Headquarters, Bandung City, West Java, Monday, January 3. He came to undergo an examination of the hate speech case which is currently under police investigation.

West Java Police Head of Public Relation Grand Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo said Bahar's inspection was scheduled to start at 09.00 western Indonesia time. However, Bahar and his legal team came to the West Java Regional Police at around 12.13 western Indonesia time.

"Based on the summons at 09.00 western Indonesia time," Ibrahim said, as quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, Bahar was examined at the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) building of the West Java Police. However, before that, Bahar was invited to enter the West Java Regional Police's Special Service Office for Women and Children to undergo an antigen test.

After that, Bahar entered the Ditreskrimum Building at around 12:37 western Indonesia time. When he entered, Bahar carried out a number of inspections by Propam personnel.

Meanwhile, Bahar said that his arrival to undergo the examination was carried out as a form of his obligations as a citizen.

"I came here as my obligation, as a citizen, I am cooperative, I came at the call of the West Java Police," he said.

Bahar Smith was reported on suspicion of hate speech at a lecture in Bandung Regency with letter number B 6354/12/2021 SPKT PMJ 2021.

In this investigation, the police applied Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) and/or Article 14 and Article 15 of the Law. RI number 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations.
