JAKARTA - The Last of Us officially airs today, Monday, January 16 local time. This series is one of the most anticipated titles by the audience, both fans of the series and game lovers.

Created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, The Last of Us tells the story of the struggle of two main characters: Joel and Ellie who face zombie apocalyps who attack the city. The trailer, which was released for the first time last December, became a public conversation.

The following is a synopsis of the series The Last of Us:

20 years after civilization, Joel (Pedro Pascal) was assigned to bring Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl to leave the quarantine center. The two traveled through the United States and various other challenges.

Joel, who remembers the child's death, tries to protect Ellie. But on the other hand they also risked their lives to get out of the quarantine zone.

The series also discusses the journey of finding the real cure for a fungal attack when Joel was tasked with bringing Ellie to appear immune to infection.

The first episode of The Last of Us tells the story of an outbreak of fungi that is starting to spread. The danger of global warming is also suspected of affecting the fungus outbreak in the future.

The story is also divided into two times, namely in the past and the present. 20 years have passed, everyone is trying to survive the plague. Joel and Ellie's meeting began with challenges.

Apart from Pascal and Ramsey, The Last of Us also stars Gabriel Luna, Total Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Mray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, and others. Gustavo Santaolalla is trusted to work on the music of this series where he is also working on music in his video game version.

There are several differences made by creators for the serial version, one of which is changing the timing of the incident to 2003. While in the game version, this zombie outbreak began in 2013. The story is inspired by the influenza pandemic in 1918.

"I thought when I watched the series and its background 20 years from now on, it felt less real. I felt unrelated. I changed this setting so that the serial timeline would change in 2023," Mazin told Insider.

"There is something as if saying this is happening now in the parallel world. It also gives us the opportunity to explore the early 2000s era," he explained.

As many as nine episodes, the series The Last of Us airs every Monday and can be watched on HBO GO.
