Shifting Allegations Of Vanessa Angel's Accident: From Drowsiness, Breaking Speed, Using Phone While Driving

JAKARTA - The case of a fatal accident that claimed the lives of Vanessa Angel and her husband, Febri Ardinsyah, is still being investigated. Provisional results, the alleged cause of the accident shifted.

This means that there are other allegations that are the main cause of the accident. Because, previously the cause of the fatal accident was because the driver, Tubagus Joddy, fell asleep while driving.

However, along with the investigation process, a suspicion emerged that the cause was due to Joddy's lack of concentration. Because, before the accident happened, he had time to play with his cellphone.

Head of Traffic Accident Section (Kasi Laka) Subdi East Java Police Traffic Directorate Law Enforcement (Gakkum Ditlantas) Commissioner Hendry Ferdinand Kennedy said Joddy's actions while playing with his cellphone were known based on the results of the examination. Where Joddy agrees with this.

"Yes, he said that (playing with cellphone) during interrogation," said Hendry, Saturday, November 6.

Based on this information, his party confiscated cellphones and electronic evidence which are currently being submitted for forensic examination.

In addition, from the interim examination, Joddy also admitted that he was driving a car at a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour.

"The driver admitted 120 kilometers per hour," he said.

Regarding the possibility of Tubagus Joddy being a suspect, he stated that this could happen. However, the determination depends on the results of the investigation.

"Yes, all possibilities are possible. Only if he is named a suspect or not, we will see the progress of the investigation results. We cannot say now because it is still a process. In addition, the condition of the driver cannot be questioned further," he said.

Although the alleged cause of the accident shifted from being sleepy to not concentrating due to playing with a cellphone while driving, the police had predicted from the start that there was an element of negligence.

The East Java Police Traffic Director, Commissioner Latif Usman, stated that the negligence committed was driving above the speed limit.

"There is a possibility of negligence," said Latif.

However, Latif said, his side's investigation has not led to an element of negligence. Because the investigation team is still waiting for Jody's condition to recover from the accident. "We haven't explored that direction yet," said Latif.

"For the time being, we will first provide assistance, inspection," he continued

Although he could not determine with certainty the element of negligence, Latif emphasized that in the accident sequence there was an act of violation. One of them, driving above the speed limit.

Where, in the toll road the speed limit is regulated in Government Regulation No. 79 of 2013 concerning the Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ) network article 23 paragraph 4.

According to the regulation, the speed limit for vehicles on inner-city toll roads is 60 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, toll roads outside the city have a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour.

"Yes, of course (violations), accidents always begin with violations," said Latif.

Vanessa Angel and her family had an accident on the Jombang-Mojokerto toll road, East Java. The car he was traveling in hit the road divider on the left. The cause is suspected to be because the driver was sleepy.

As a result of the accident, Vanessa Angel and her husband, Febri Ardiansyah died. Meanwhile, Vanessa's child who is still a toddler survived. Likewise, a nurse and driver named Tubagus Jody also survived death.
