JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen the commitment to maintaining sovereignty, law enforcement, and fiscal security in the seas of Indonesia's national jurisdiction.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the Head of the Navy's Materials, Weapons and Electronics Service (Kadissenlekal) Admiral TNI Endarto Pantja I, and the Director of Investigation and Investigation of DJBC Bahaduri Wijayanta Bekti Mukarta, witnessed by Waaskomlek Kasal TNI Admiral Dono Herbowo at the Head Office of the Director-General of Customs and Excise, Jakarta, Friday, June 3, reported by Antara.

The cooperation prioritizes the activities of saving and borrowing heavy machine guns and ammunition. The loan of heavy machine guns is one of DJBC's steps to arm their patrol boat fleet to secure Indonesia's maritime territory.

"This cooperation agreement is a formal effort to increase synergy between the two agencies, and I hope to assist Customs and Excise in carrying out their assigned tasks", said Endarto Pantja.

The DGCE personnel manning these weapons have received operational training, having passed security clearance and psychological tests to ensure that this personnel can use heavy machine guns by procedures.

Endarto hopes that this collaboration will strengthen the synergy between the Navy and DJBC, especially in carrying out law enforcement at sea by the policy of the Chief of Staff of the Navy (Kasal) Admiral Yudo Margono.

The Indonesian Navy is committed to continuing to enforce the law and maintain security in the marine area of national jurisdiction, including against all forms of smuggling and illegal acts.

Meanwhile, Bahaduri Wijayanta said weapons were the last means used in very urgent conditions to stop smuggling ships.

"This is also an effort to defend oneself", said Bahaduri.
