JAKARTA Spotify said that its app update to iOS was rejected by Apple. This happens because Spotify adds price information outside the App Store without including links for users in the European Union (EU).

This update does violate Apple's latest rules, where all developers must add links to payment options outside the App Store. By adding a link, Apple can charge 27 percent of transactions.

However, Apple stated that the problem was not in the link, but because of rights that had not been Spotify obtained. Apparently, the music streaming platform has not received Music Streaming Service Rights in the European Economic Zone (EEA).

"This right is necessary even though your app does not include external links," an Apple spokesperson said. Spotify has not yet responded to Streaming Service Rights that they do not yet have.

On the other hand, Spotify focuses on Apple's rules that are considered a punishment for developers. According to Spotify, Apple's cost burden applies is very unreasonable. Therefore, they deliberately don't add links in the app.

Spotify wants to circumvent Apple's rules and refuses to pay commission fees to the company. For Spotify, Apple's action is a rejection of the European Commission's decision to allow payment information outside the app.

"Apple is once again against the European Commission's decision, rejecting our updates trying to communicate with customers about our prices unless we pay new taxes to Apple. Their appeal to consumers and developers is only offset by their insults to the law," Spotify told 9to5mac.

Meanwhile, the European Commission is reviewing the decisions Apple has made. They will assess Apple's regulatory changes under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and determine whether Apple has violated their policies.
