JAKARTA - In commemorating the Eid al-Adha, Tuesday, July 20, the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, hopes that the Indonesian people can unite to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As the General Chair of the Golkar Party DPP, my directive to all Golkar Party leaders and cadres throughout Indonesia, make the momentum of Eid al-Adha 1442 H which took place during the COVID-19 pandemic as a great effort to unite and share with others," Airlangga said as quoted from the party's official video broadcast received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He explained that the slaughter of sacrificial animals, which is the main ritual of Eid al-Adha, is an opportunity for all Muslims in the country to work together and help each other, considering that the pandemic has given many difficulties to the community, especially in the economic sector.

"COVID-19 has forced us to follow health protocols, wear masks, maintain distance, stay away from crowds, and in fact, it has a wide socio-economic impact," said the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party DPP, who currently serves as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

In the midst of various limitations, he also invited all party cadres and the community in the country to always pray for safety.

"Let's celebrate the Day of Sacrifice by being grateful and praying, raising our hands, hoping for forgiveness, and asking Allah SWT so that the Indonesian people are always protected, given guidance, kindness, and safety, and the COVID-19 pandemic is lifted from the Indonesian people," he said.

Airlangga, through the same broadcast, also expressed his hope that the Indonesian people could strengthen unity in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"United and healthy. God willing, our nation will rise, prosper, and be blessed," he added.

The government on July 10, 2021, set Eid al-Adha 1442 H/2021 AD to be commemorated on Tuesday (20/7).
