PENAJAM - The Capital Authority of the Archipelago (IKN) confirmed that contractors involved in the Nusantara City development project as new Indonesian IKN in parts of North Penajam Paser Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, must protect the environment.

According to Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources of the IKN Authority, Myrna Asnawati Safitri, the affirmation concerns this matter by issuing a circular to control damage and environmental pollution during the construction period.

The Circular Letter (SE) of the Head of the IKN Authority asked the person in charge of the construction project to comply with all environmental obligations and prioritize prevention and prudence.

"The circular is to anticipate uncontrolled environmental damage and pollution," he said as quoted by ANTAAR, Tuesday, June 6.

The IKN Authority, he said, is preparing other policies regarding the environment, such as household waste management and household-like waste.

"Then the waste bank guidelines and construction waste management guidelines, all of that is for waste control in the new nation's capital called Nusantara," he explained.

He said sorting waste is important. With the policy being prepared, the waste disposal model at the final waste disposal site (TPA) will be replaced.

The TPA, he said, would be replaced by building an integrated waste processing site (TPST) which will be carried out this year (2023).

"The main policy of waste is managing waste from the source," he explained.

"The city of Nusantara will come with the development of a waste recycling business or reducing waste and encouraging waste recycling," he said.

Garbage issues, he continued, are not just matters of policy and technology, but are lifestyle issues that must change, starting from individuals, families, office environments, and society.
