JAKARTA - An elderly fisherman named Wamu (60) drowned due to a fishing boat that he was traveling in overturned being hit by a big wave while looking for fish in Muara Kalibaru, Cilincing District, East Jakarta.

The victim was reported missing and drowned in Basarnas Jakarta since Thursday night, January 25 at around 22.30 WIB. After receiving the report, the joint SAR team searched for victims on Friday, January 26, morning.

"The joint SAR team this morning resumed SAR operations against victims after last night's search efforts were still nil," said Head of the Jakarta Basarnas as SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) in the SAR operation, Desiana Kartika Bahari when confirmed, Jukat, January 26.

He said the search effort was continued by dividing the search area into two. The first team conducted a search by combing the waters using rubber boats up to a radius of 1 KM from the scene.

"The second team carried out an effort to search under the surface of the water through the dive process up to a radius of 10 meters from the scene, if conditions allowed," he said.

The joint SAR personnel deployed in the SAR operation included the Jakarta Basarnas, Kalibaru Police, Tanjung Priok KSOP and other fishermen. The search for victims continues.
