Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno: Differences and Rivalry Are Inevitable, But Don't Let It Destroy Cooperation That Is Beneficial to Humans

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi reminded us that the current differences and rivalries between countries should not destroy existing and beneficial cooperation structures.

This was said by Foreign Minister Retno related to the current global conditions, where between countries there is a fairly wide gap between one position and another, including in the context of the G20.

"Differences and rivalries are unavoidable in relations between countries. Wisdom and responsibility are needed so that differences and rivalries do not destroy the building of cooperation that is beneficial for humans", said Foreign Minister Retno in a hybrid press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta on October 13.

"Don't let differences and rivalries destroy the world and humanity", continued Foreign Minister Retno.

Previously, Foreign Minister Retno said that under normal conditions, negotiations at the G20 were never easy, especially in the current conditions where the state's position actually has a fairly wide gap between one position and another. So you can imagine what the current level of difficulty is like.

"Indonesia's task as president of the G20 is to manage so that this extraordinary dynamic does not damage the entire G20 building", said Foreign Minister Retno.

Regarding the implementation of the G20 Summit on November 15-16 in Bali, Foreign Minister Retno said that all logistical preparations were going well and only a few percent remained to be completed, they were minor in nature. According to her, preparations continue to be finalized until D-day, so Indonesia is really ready to hold this big event.

"So far we have not received a negative response. We have not received a negative response from all G20 member countries so far regarding the presence of their leaders", she explained.

"Coordination with representatives of G20 countries as well as invited countries continues to prepare for the participation of leaders. So their representatives in Indonesia continue to prepare their groundwork for the presence of their leaders", concluded Foreign Minister Retno.
