Head Of Class I Cipinang Denies There Is A Practice Of Selling And Buying Detention Rooms

JAKARTA - Head of Cipinang Class I Prison, Tony Nainggolan, denied reports of the practice of buying and selling rooms for prisoners in prison (WBP) at the Cipinang Class I Correctional Institution, Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

Tony Nainggolan said that inmates do not need to spend money to be able to enjoy the facilities, including sleeping during their detention in Cipinang Class 1 Prison.

"Just yesterday I opened an orientation admissions program (environmental introduction) and I said that in Cipinang prison there are no paid matters, including sleep problems," said Tony Nainggolan, quoting Antara, Thursday, January 3.

However, Tony admits that the Cipinang Class I Prison is currently overcapacity. From what should have been 880 people, now there are 3,206 prisoners from various cases.

"Today there are 3,206 people for a capacity of 880 people. If it is true that there are paid practices by employees or prisoners, I will take strict action," said Tony.

There was news about the practice of buying and selling rooms for prisoners in prison (WBP) at the Class I Cipinang Correctional Institution, Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

An inmate at Cipinang Prison with the initials WC said that he and other inmates had to pay money to get a room while serving their prison term.

"Later, the money will be handed over to the warden, it's like that here. For sleeping in the room, it's between IDR 5 million to IDR 25 million per month. Usually, those who get the room are big drug dealers," said WC.

He said the inmates had to pay for a place to sleep because the Cipinang prison was now overcapacity.

To get a bed in the hallway block with a cardboard base they first submit a request to the companion prisoner (tamping).

"The amount depends on the bed you buy. If you sleep in the hallway near a pot with a cardboard base, it's IDR 30 thousand per week. In other words, buy a place," said the WC.

He said the case of buying and selling rooms in Cipinang Prison has been going on for a long time and has become a source of income for officers. So far, inmates do not dare to report for fear that they will be transferred to solitary confinement.

"Yes, like it or not, we have to pay for sleeping. Ask for money from outside families to be sent here. If you don't have money, it's difficult. The food is prosperous here, drug dealer prisoners," said WC.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Kemenkumham Regional Office, Ibnu Chuldun, also denied when it was confirmed the alleged practice of buying and selling detention rooms in Cipinang Class I Prison.

"This information is completely untrue. The bedding provided is a mattress and is free of charge," said Ibnu.
