JAKARTA - Many women who break the gender stereotype are juxtaposed with Srikandi, a female figure in the Mahabharata epos who is attached to the values of women's emancipation.

If India has a Srikandi that is good at archery, then Indonesia has Aura Rahmi Ramadana who is proficient in controlling the "iron snake", namely the Jabodebek LRT electric train series.

Although he had to go through various challenges when he entered a career in a profession dominated by men, Aura did not fulfill her dream of becoming a train driver or driver.

"For me, being a driver is not just a career, but a form of service for the community, and it gives a deep meaning in my life," said Aura Rahmi Ramadana interpreting her profession as a machinist, reported by Antara, Thursday, December 26.

The journey taken by Aura in achieving her dream cannot be separated from the policy of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI which provides space for Indonesian women to pursue a career as a driver.

Aura wants to share her experience to be an inspiration to the community, especially women out there, who dream of becoming a driver.

Putri Baturaja, South Sumatra, tells the story of the beginning of her pursuing a career as a driver. She admitted that she had a long and challenging process, starting from administrative selection, medical tests, psychological tests, to interviews.

After being declared to have passed and become part of a railway personnel, Aura also attended intensive training which included theory, direct practice in the field, and simulations of train operation.

He not only carried out the training in Indonesia, but also visited Malaysia to learn about how to operate trains.

As for a number of trainings that Aura has gone through, including training the first level rail facilities crew by driving electricity (0.61) at the Bekasi Railway Engineering Training Center; the skills of the first level railway facilities crew (0.62) at the South Sumatra LRT; as well as training for the crew of the automatic railway facilities (Professional Metro Train Driver) in Prasana Malaysia Berhad.

Aura also underwent training in the SoP Train Attendant Education on the Grade of Automation (GoA) 3 Division of the Jabodebek LRT.

He went through these various processes with seriousness and dedication, until he managed to pocket the automatic Railway Facilities Crew certification (2023 2027) after passing the certification test.

"After passing, I was officially appointed a young driver," he said.

These various trainings also provide Aura with the expertise to operate the Jabodebek LRT based on automatic and manual systems, operational safety and handling of emergency situations, and understanding public transportation service standards.

His efforts to achieve dreams have also been paid off. Aura received various facilities provided by KAI, including salaries, health benefits, insurance, and other welfare programs.

Aura feels that all the facilities she receives are a form of appreciation for the great responsibility carried out by the drivers. He is motivated to work optimally and focus on his responsibility as a driver.

Now, Aura is serving as the driver of the Jabodebek LRT electric train using automatic (driverless) technology. Even though this train is based automatically, the role of the driver remains important in monitoring and ensuring the smooth journey and safety of passengers.

Even though being a machinist is no longer limited to sleeping flowers for Aura, she still doesn't get tired of honing her knowledge and continues to learn. Aura did not run out of stepping stones after successfully realizing her dreams.

Referring back to how Aura interprets the machinist profession as a form of service for the community, Srikandi, who was born in 1998, directed his arrows at a new target.

He is targeting the development of technology utilization in the transformation of public transportation, especially railways, to be a further step.

The hope that is now a compass in his career journey is to improve expertise in the operation of advanced technology-based trains. He is committed to exploring the automatic train system (driverless) to support increased efficiency and security in the railway world.

Thus, Aura hopes to contribute directly to the development of similar modes of transportation in the future.

Not only that, he also wants to disseminate his experience and knowledge to the younger generation, especially women, so that more and more people are interested in careers in public transportation, especially railways.

Aura advised women not to be afraid to dream big, even though what they dream of is considered unusual for women.

He himself proved this remark through his success in achieving a dream to become a driver. According to him, his achievements are proof that women can also play a major role, especially in the field of world progress in transportation.

The key to its success is confidence in oneself, persistence in continuing to learn, and its commitment to provide the best for the nation and state.

Aura believes that through her career as a driver, she can help the mobility of many people, both for work, education, and maintaining the relationship between family members who are separated by distance.

In carrying out their responsibilities and carrying out their duties, Aura adheres to the commitment to safely, comfortably, and on time.

"Through this work, I can make a direct contribution to the community," said Aura.
