Urges Recognition Of State Rights, President Abbas: What's The Danger If Palestine Gets Full Membership Of The United Nations?

JAKARTA - President Mahmoud Abbas called for international recognition of the Palestinian State, so that it could obtain the United Nations' full membership, during a speech at the UN General Assembly at the New York United Nations Headquarters, Thursday.

"What is the danger if the Palestinian State gets full membership at the United Nations?" asked President Abbas, launching the UN website, Friday, September 22.

President Abbas further said he came to bring the Palestinian people's struggle for freedom and independence, reminding the Assembly of the tragedy caused by Nakba 75 years ago and its impact continues to be exacerbated by the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

To that end, Palestinian Leaders urged the General Assembly to set May 15 every year as an international day to commemorate Nakba, recalling hundreds of thousands of Palestinians killed, forced to flee and their homes destroyed.

He also called on the international community to carry out its responsibilities with courage, implementing a resolution to recognize Palestinian rights.

It is known, Israel is working to normalize its relationship with Saudi Arabia, one of the countries that defend Palestine, with the United States bridge. If realized, it could change the Middle East political map.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Prince Mohammed Bin Salman does not deny that his country's relations with Israel are getting closer. However, both the Prince of MBS and the United States reiterated the resolution of the Palestinian issue, gaining profit in any agreement.

"For us, the Palestinian issue is very important. We need to solve that part," he explained, when asked what was needed to obtain a normalization agreement.

"And we have a good negotiation strategy to date," said Prince MBS.

"We have to see where we are going. We hope this will reach a point that will facilitate the lives of the Palestinian people and make Israel a player in the Middle East," Prince MBS said.
