Ahead of Austrian GP With High Motivation, Vinales: We Want To Fight Ahead And Win

JAKARTA - Maverick Vinales reaped the fruits of his hard work in Aprilia with two consecutive podiums before undergoing the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, this weekend with high motivation.

Holding on to fourth place before experiencing a technical problem at the Sachsenring, Germany, Vinales kept his cool in the next two races at Assen and Silverstone to offer the Italian team a podium for the first time.

The Spaniard clearly had the pace to win the British Grand Prix two weeks ago, and he will be looking to do even better this week in Austria, where he was sacked by Yamaha in the middle of last season.

"It's a completely different weekend, we are very focused and motivated," said Vinales at a press conference ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg, Thursday, quoted by Antara.

"We are arriving from two very good weekends and we want to continue that to fight up front and win.

"We have room to improve and we are getting there, in the process, but we feel very competitive. I think this track suits us and my riding style."

Vinales has a positive record at Spielberg by taking pole at the 2020 Austrian GP while racing for Yamaha. He escaped from Johann Zarco's motorbike which bounced into Turn 3 and underwent a race restart from P6 before finishing P10 due to clutch problems.

For the past 12 months in Aprilia's uniform, Vinales has been trying to find himself and works hard every day.

"I'm actually fighting myself.... It's not easy because I work from the back row in MotoGP and now having good days, the best is yet to come," said Vinales, who is eager to help Aprilia win the world title this season.

"I feel very calm, we did well on the track and also with this bike, I'm very happy that everything went well with the Aprilia."

His teammate, Aleix Espargaro is one of the serious competitors for the world title this season in second place in the standings with a distance of 22 points from Fabio Quartararo.

"Aleix is fighting for this title and I want Aprilia to win the title and I want to help them as much as I can. The way I help is to be up front, try to win races and do my best to do my best."
