After Deciding Not To Be In The Field And Threatened By WO, Persipura's Account Is Quiet

JAKARTA - Persipura Jayapura's Instagram account has been quiet from the latest upload. Even though the team nicknamed the Black Pearl was threatened by WO after not being present on the field in the match against Madura United.

VOI monitored until Tuesday, February 22 afternoon, the @persipurapapua1963 account did not upload anything including apologies or official explanations regarding their absence from the match the day before.

The last upload of the account only shows a poster containing information about their last match against Madura United. Where on the appointed day Persipura did not even show presence at the stadium until the last second the match started.

"RISE !!! C'mon Black Pearl," wrote the account.

This then made this last upload a lot of comments by netizens. The majority of netizens questioned where Persipura went during the match.

Despite the silence of the Persipura account, Angel Alfredo Vera's team apparently had sent a letter to PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) as the operator of the competition and stated that they could not compete after nine players were exposed to COVID-19.

The meeting with Madura United was actually a postponed match for week 22 of Liga 1 which was held at the I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Bali, and was scheduled to start at 20.45 p.m. local time.

In the aftermath of Persipura Jayapura's absence on a predetermined schedule, they were declared defeated by WO and there was a threat of fines awaiting them. The fine is known to amount to IDR 150 million based on the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) disciplinary code.

In addition, the second paragraph of the disciplinary code also states that there are additional sanctions for clubs that refuse to compete or are not present at matches. Looking at article 11, the sanction is in the form of a transfer ban until relegation for the club in question.
