JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) ensures that Batam city is a city on the priority list for the construction of a National Data Center (PDN) in Indonesia. Later this city will support the running of the government after moving to the new capital city.

"Jakarta is ready, Batam is also on the priority sort list. We definitely have to build a new capital city, and finally, we are doing the final analysis. The choice is Labuan Bajo, it has great potential to become the fourth national data center nationwide", said Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate in his statement, Saturday, April 24.

This was expressed by Johnny during his visit to visit two prospective PDN locations in Nongsa Digitial Park and Barelang Village, both of which are located in Batam City. Later, from the two regions that have been reviewed, one location will be selected that best suits the needs of the Central Government.

There will be a special team in charge of analyzing the two locations to then decide through the Ministry of Communication and Information. However, Jhonny appreciated the regional government's steps for having prepared both locations strategically and well.

He revealed that the presence of PDN is one of the things needed in the digital era to simplify the process of running the government in Indonesia.

"In terms of data management, of course, we as a big nation need redundancy of the data center or government cloud redundancy. So not only in the capital city of Jakarta but also in the new capital city in Kalimantan and strategic areas such as Batam, others in Central and Eastern Indonesia, one of which is in Labuan Bajo, which we will check technically and geostrategically", said Johnny.

He explained the progress of the PDN development for the first location in Jakarta, which is currently entering the design stage and a detailed design will be carried out. Meanwhile, other areas are in the stage of determining the location until the final study.

It is hoped that the four PDNs can be completed at the same time as the moment the capital city of Indonesia will be moved to East Kalimantan in 2023.
