JAKARTA - Toronto startup Untether launched its newest artificial intelligence (AI) chip on Monday, October 28 which is designed to support AI applications in autonomous vehicles, agricultural devices, and other applications.

According to the Vice President of Untether Products, Bob Beachler, the market for chips that only run AI applications, or "inference," is predicted to surpass the AI model training market and reach a value of 102 billion US dollars (Rp1.6 quadrillion) by 2027. "The implementation of inference will be ubiquitous," he said.

The latest Untether chip, called 240 Slim, has high performance but with much lower energy consumption. This chip technology is built based on open-source RISC-V technology, which is a competitor to Arm Holdings' design.

Mercedes-Benz also announced cooperation with Untether to develop next-generation autonomous vehicles.

In a trial from MLCommons, a non-profit that conducts industrial benchmarks, Untether chips show promising performance in accordance with designed application specifications.
