BPBD Garut Regency Monitors the South Area After the Sukabumi Earthquake

GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java, is monitoring the situation in the southern area or local coast after a magnitude 5.0 earthquake with the epicenter on the south coast of Sukabumi Regency, Sunday afternoon.

The Secretary of the Garut Regency BPBD, Abud Abdullah, confirmed the report from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the earthquake in the south of Sukabumi, while until now for the Garut area which is one coastline with Sukabumi has not felt the strong shock of the earthquake.

"Monitoring the Garut area does not feel," he said.

He said the results of the report from BMKG that the earthquake occurred on Sunday, at 15:11:06 WIB which had the latest parameters with a magnitude of 4.8 at a depth of 52 km or located in the sea at a distance of 79 km southwest of Sukabumi Regency.

The shallow earthquake in the sea floor of the region, he said, based on the results of the BMKG study did not show the potential for a tsunami and there were no aftershocks.

"The results of the tsunami modeling show that this earthquake has no tsunami potential," he said.

He conveyed the BMKG report that the level of earthquake tremors was felt in a number of areas, such as in Sukabumi, Cianjur, Bandung, and Bogor.

BMKG, he said, is currently continuing to monitor the activity of aftershocks and providing updates to stakeholders and the public.

The appeal from BMKG, he said, was for the public to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be held accountable for their truth and to avoid cracked or damaged buildings.
