KAI ensures train travel remains safe after a magnitude 4.9 earthquake

Cianjur - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operation 2 Bandung ensures that all train journeys in the Bandung Daop 2 operational area remain safe after the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred Sunday (19/7) afternoon.

The Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 2 Bandung, Kuswardojo, when contacted on Sunday, said that railway travel safety was KAI's top priority in any condition, including during natural disasters.

Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was centered 83 kilometers south of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, at coordinates 7.73 LS - 106.53 BT with a depth of 23 kilometers.

"Where the earthquake tremors were felt in the operational area of PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung across Cibeber-Gandasoli, where at the time of the incident there was a Siliwangi train (343) relationship between Cipatat-Sukabumi entering Cibeber-Cianjur Station," he said.

The Siliwangi train arrived at Cibeber Station according to schedule when the earthquake occurred, as a form of implementing safety procedures, the train journey was not immediately continued.

KAI Daop 2 Bandung officers immediately carried out a thorough inspection of railway infrastructure on the affected lines, including the rail line, bridges, tunnels, and operational support facilities to ensure that they are all in a safe and safe condition.

After it was confirmed that there were no disturbances or damage to the infrastructure, the Siliwangi train was again dispatched from Cibeber Station to Sukabumi Station, despite being delayed for 19 minutes from the original departure schedule.

"KAI Daop 2 Bandung ensures that the results of the inspection show that all infrastructure on the Cibeber-Gandasoli crossing is in a safe condition and there is no damage due to the earthquake," he said.

The inspection was carried out according to standard operating procedures as a preventive measure before the train journey was resumed, where the safety of customers, equipment crew, and train operations is always the top priority of PT KAI.

"Every time there is an earthquake that has the potential to affect the railway line, KAI will immediately implement emergency response procedures by temporarily stopping train travel on the affected lines for inspection by infrastructure officers," he said.
