The record of the fastest "robot to complete the rotary cube" has been popular for years. In 2009, the record was one minute and four seconds, but gradually became shorter over the years. In 2016, the record finally crossed the one-second limit.
Now, the engineering team at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has raised the bar, after setting an impressive new record.
"I checked the previous record-holder video, and I feel that the bike we have is better than them," said Tokui, who led the record trial. "So I'm sure that we can beat them at speed."

The robot is equipped with a series of motors that work simultaneously to drive the cube at incredible speed. However, during the testing process, the team faced an unexpected problem - the cube had difficulty following the speed of the robot.
During the first official record trial, the puzzle was stuck. Luckily, with some adjustments, the team managed to overcome the problem and succeeded in a second experiment.
"I know that our products can make the world a better place," Tokui said. "I hope this record will allow people around the world to know what our products can do."
