JAKARTA - During the Microsoft Build: AI Day event on May 1 in Bangkok, Thailand, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced a significant commitment to building new clouds and AI infrastructure in Thailand.

The commitment, which was built based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties, will provide opportunities for AI skills for more than 100,000 people, and support the developing community of developers in the country.

The initiative, which is Microsoft's collaboration with several ministries in Thailand, is expected to improve the AI skills of figures involved in the tourism sector through AI Skills for the Tourism Industry that supports AI programs.

"This aims to empower young entrepreneurs and youth involved in tourism businesses in all small-level geographic provinces in the five regions of Thailand," said Nadella.

Later, this program will focus on increasing the ability of 500 trainers from the AI technology vocational education training institute for the tourism sector of Thailand. This coach will then equip young individuals in tourism and hospitality with AI skills.

Microsoft will also encourage the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand to adopt a cloud-first policy with the government's AI development program for developers and IT personnel.

According to Nadella, Thailand has an extraordinary opportunity to build an AI-powered first digital-fueled future. Thus, the tech giant is optimistic that this collaboration can help Thailand excel as a digital economy, and could contribute to the prosperity of Thai society.

At the same time, Nadella also announced plans to open its first regional data center in Thailand. This is done, as a step to increase the availability of cloud services.
