JAKARTA - Taiwan is increasingly promoting tourism in Indonesia by targeting Muslim tourists. The momentum of the end of the year and New Year holidays is an opportunity to increase Indonesian tourists' visits to Taiwan.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the travel of Indonesian citizens abroad throughout 2025 reached 9.16 million trips. This potential encourages Taiwan to strengthen its promotion by offering a more diverse and Muslim-friendly travel experience.
Director of Economic Division Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, Frank Lu, said that Taiwan's tourism promotion is not only aimed at introducing destinations, but also strengthening the relationship between the people of Taiwan and Indonesia.
"Taiwan Travel Fair is not only a platform to promote tourism products, but also an important bridge to strengthen people-to-people relations between Taiwan and Indonesia," said Frank at the opening event at Lippo Mall Puri, Jakarta, Friday, August 14.
One of Taiwan's focus of promotion is the development of Muslim-friendly tourism. Taiwan continues to increase the availability of halal food, Muslim-friendly accommodation, prayer rooms, to wudu facilities to provide comfort for Muslim tourists.
This effort also strengthens Taiwan's position in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2026. Taiwan ranks third in the world in the category of non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destinations, on par with the United Kingdom.
Frank hopes that this achievement will increase the confidence of Muslim tourists, including from Indonesia, to make Taiwan a travel destination.
"We hope that Indonesian tourists can see Taiwan as a comfortable destination and give a sense of confidence, including for Muslim tourists," he said.
Taiwan's promotion is not only focused on Taipei. Indonesian tourists are introduced to various destinations such as Alishan, Sun Moon Lake, hot spring areas, night markets, and local cultural experiences.
Director of the Taiwan Tourism Information Center in Jakarta, Abe Chou said Indonesian tourists are now starting to look for more diverse travel experiences, not just visiting popular destinations.
"In addition to visiting famous tourist attractions, more and more Indonesian tourists are looking for a more in-depth travel experience," Abe said on the same occasion.
With the strengthening of Muslim-friendly facilities and the expansion of destination options, Taiwan hopes that more Indonesian tourists will choose Taiwan as a travel destination, especially during the year-end and New Year holidays.
