Five People Died Due to NTT Earthquake

Meeting the press regarding the post-earthquake developments in NTT/ANTARA/Kornelis Kaha

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Melki Laka Lena said based on the latest report received, as many as five people were reported dead due to an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 in Mbay, Nagekeo Regency.

"Based on the information I received so far, the number of victims who died is five people," he said in Kupang, Saturday, August 15, reported by ANTARA.

This was conveyed by the Governor of NTT when holding a press conference with related parties ranging from BMKG, BPBD, SAR, and TNI, Polri for the continued handling of the impact of the earthquake in Flores.

He said the victims who died, two of whom were in Maumere, Sikka Regency and three more in Manggarai Regency.

The victim who died was allegedly due to the collapse of the building that collapsed when the earthquake occurred in the area.

"However, we will make sure again what the cause is," he said.

"Later this afternoon we will leave for Flores and later this afternoon we will provide an update again, starting from the number of casualties and damage," he added.

Regarding the damage, currently several roads in Flores are also broken and landslides due to the earthquake.
