JAKARTA - The defeat of the Iranian national team from the United States (US) added to the pressure felt by the players. Moreover, previously appeared a political threat from their own government.

Threats from the Iranian government were directed at the players and their families because they were considered to be protesting against the regime. This started when the entire squad refused to sing the national anthem in the inaugural match of the 2022 World Cup against England.
