Guaranteed Casemiro Fits In The Premier League, Varane: I Know Very Well His Qualities

JAKARTA - Raphael Varane says new Manchester United signing Casemiro is a perfect fit for English football and is backing his former Real Madrid team-mate to be successful at Old Trafford.

Casemiro has completed his move to United and watched boss Erik ten Hag's side win 2-1 over Liverpool on Monday.

Varane knows all about the Brazilian midfielder as the two have played together at the Bernabeu for a long time. Varane calls Casemiro the perfect addition to the Red Devils squad.

"I know very well his qualities. He can create balance and mentality into the team," Varane was quoted as saying by the ESPN website on Wednesday.

"He's a fighter, so I think he will really enjoy English football. I know him very well."

"I think it was the perfect night for him to meet Old Trafford because the atmosphere was great and he brought the win so it was great fun."

Varane and Casemiro were part of the Madrid team that won the Champions League four times in 2014-2018.

Varane joined United last summer looking for a new challenge and the France international says Casemiro shared the same reason when following him to Manchester.

"I know exactly how he feels and why he came here after what he left behind at Madrid," added Varane.

"He needs a new challenge, I know exactly how he feels, and I know exactly why he chose this club."

"It's a similar process I went through, so I wish him the best and I've spoken to him many times, but he doesn't need my help in making his choices."

Varane has had a difficult start to the season having been substituted on the bench in the first two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

He re-entered the squad against Liverpool to partner Lisandro Martinez at centre-back as United picked up their first win.

Varane admitted he was confused as to why they lost 4-0 to Brentford, but then quickly bounced back against Jurgen Klopp's men.

"It's difficult to explain why, but we didn't start the game with the same intensity, with the same fighting spirit," added Varane.

"We have motivation but it's hard to explain why it started with such low energy."

"Football is about energy, about when to press, when to stay calm and when to attack.

"We showed great self-control (against Liverpool). What a mature performance."
