JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian basketball team Patriots Milos Pejic asked his team to minimize big mistakes if they want to get better results in the 2022 IBL basketball competition.

Pejic said this before the Patriots faced Dewa United Surabaya on the last day of the IBL 2022 first series, at the Senayan Basketball Hall, Jakarta, Friday, January 22.

"Maybe we will be warier of Dewa United's players who are more senior and more experienced. Then back to our evaluation that the players should be able to reduce basic errors," Pejic said in a written statement received by VOI.

The Patriots, who are projected to be the successors to the Indonesian national basketball team, started the first IBL series with a number of unsatisfactory results. They have received two defeats from three matches played.

Pejic's team suffered the first defeat when they met Bali United on January 16 last. Meanwhile, they suffered another defeat against Amartha Hangtuah Jakarta in the latest match.

The only victory that was obtained by Ali Bagir Alhadar and his friends was when they faced the debutant team, Evos Thunder, Bogor. At that time, the Patriots narrowly won 58-53.

Pejic said that his team should be more confident when facing teams with more experienced players. Confidence will make players have more concentration in implementing the strategies instructed by the coach.

"Our focus is how to increase the confidence of the players and maintain the physical condition of the team, as well as understanding the strategy of the coaching team. The future of this team is good because some players have found confidence," Pejic said.

Patriots must be more vigilant when facing Dewa United Surabaya. Moreover, the potential opponents of the team that became the forerunner of the Indonesian basketball team were filled with players who had killer instincts like Jamarr Andre Johnson.

In addition, the ranks of young Dewa United players should not be underestimated either. It was noted that the names of Lucky Abdi and Nikholas Mahesa could be troublesome.

IBL 2022 will be held in six series in six cities. After the Jakarta series, it will continue to Bandung on 29 January-5 February, Yogyakarta on 10-16 February, Solo 3-9 March, Surabaya 13-19 March and Denpasar 24-30 March.
