Prosecutor Demands British Citizen 10 Years in Prison for 1.4 kg of Cocaine Case in Bali

DENPASAR - The public prosecutor of the Denpasar District Attorney's Office, Bali, has charged a British citizen, Baath Jarnail Singh (52), with a sentence of 10 years in prison in a case of trafficking in cocaine-type narcotics weighing 1.4 kilograms.

The indictment was read by JPU Finna Wulandaripadasidang at the Denpasar District Court, Tuesday, July 28, with the agenda of reading the indictment.

"Demanding that the panel of judges declare the defendant Baath Jarnail Singh to be proven legally and convincingly with a sentence of 10 years in prison, reduced for as long as the defendant is in custody," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

The prosecutor stated that the defendant was proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009, in conjunction with Article 604 paragraph 2 letter a of Law Number 1 concerning the Criminal Code, Jo Law No. 1 of 2026 concerning adjustment of criminal law.

The defendant is not entitled to receive or become an intermediary in the circulation of narcotics of Group I with a weight exceeding five grams.

In addition to imprisonment, the prosecutor also demanded that the defendant pay a fine of Rp. 1 billion subsider six months in prison.

Previously, in the indictment letter it was explained that the defendant was arrested by Denpasar Police officers on February 14, 2026 at room number 11 The Legian Mas Beach Inn, Jalan Lebak Bene, Legian, Kuta, Badung.

The disclosure of the case began with information from the public regarding the involvement of a foreign citizen in an international narcotics distribution network.

Based on this information, the police carried out a raid and search in the room occupied by the defendant.

From the results of the search, officers found five packages of cocaine with a total net weight of 1,419.79 grams stored in the defendant's bags and suitcases.

The police also secured two electric scales, two mobile phones, and a number of items that were allegedly used to store and package narcotics.

The results of the examination by the Bali Police Forensic Laboratory confirmed that all the evidence was positive for cocaine, which is included in the I-class Narcotics.

The examination of the defendant's urine also showed the presence of ecgonine methyl ester, a metabolite of cocaine.

During the trial, the defendant admitted that he came to Bali at the behest of someone with the initials MIC who is still listed as a wanted person (DPO).

The defendant was asked to receive and store the cocaine package until it was picked up by someone named Muhammad Ali.

In return, the defendant admitted to receiving Rp10 million in cash for living expenses while storing the goods.

In addition, the defendant also received a transfer of funds of 2,000 Hong Kong dollars eight to ten times from MIC.

The trial will continue next week with the agenda of reading the defense note or pleidoi from the defendant and his legal advisor.
