Dog Meat Cheated For Sale At Senen Market, IKAPPI: PD Pasar Jaya What Are You Doing?

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi) considers the disclosure of the practice of buying and selling dog meat at Senen Market, Central Jakarta, as evidence of the weak supervision of BUMD PD Pasar Jaya as market manager.

In fact, the Food Law and Consumer Protection Act clearly state that dog meat is not included in the category of food definition.

"This discovery that has just been revealed has been going on for almost a few years. We regret this, so far, what has PD Pasar Jaya been doing in managing the market?" asked DPW Chairman Ikappi Miftahudin in his statement, Monday, September 13.

Miftahudin views, from this case, the DKI Provincial Government cannot only blame the traders who sell dog meat.

These rogue traders need to be punished. However, said Miftahudin, the ranks of PD Pasar Jaya must also evaluate the weakness of their internal supervision.

"This incident must be a joint evaluation both at PD Pasar Jaya, the provincial government, and guidance for traders. This is proof that the supervision process is not working. Managers only think about income," he said.

Previously, Animal Defenders Indonesia (ADI) conducted an investigation at Senen Market. As a result, they found that there was a long-standing dog meat trade.

"One stall that we investigated, admitted that they sell at least 4 dogs a day. They have been operating for more than 6 years," wrote animaldefendersindo's Instagram.

This finding was acknowledged by the General Manager and Public Relations of Perumda Pasar Jaya Gatra Vaganza. Gatra admitted that there are unscrupulous traders who sell dog meat at Senen Market Blok III, Central Jakarta. According to Gatra, dog meat is not included in the commodities that can be traded in the market network owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Jaya is selling the dog meat at Senen Market Block III," said Gatra.
