Hansi Flick Not Happy With Dani Olmo's Status At Barcelona

JAKARTA - Hansi Flick said he was unhappy with the situation as Barcelona struggled to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season.

Olmo and Victor were both canceled by La Liga on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, after the Blaugrana failed to comply with a deadline of December 31, 2024 to prove that they comply with league Financial Fair Play rules.

Barcelona continues to struggle to register the two, which was permanently contracted last summer. However, the two players were not available to choose ahead of the Copa del Rey match on Sunday, January 5, 2025, against fourth division club Barbastro.

"To be honest, I'm not happy with this situation. The players are also not happy with this situation."

"However, that is how it is and we have to accept it. We are professionals. We have to play football."

"I have to train and the club has to do their job. I believe in the club that they are doing their job and I am doing my job."

"That belief exists. I'm always positive about things, but we have to wait for a decision," Flick told a news conference on Friday, January 3, 2024, when asked about Olmo and Victor.

This is Barcelona's latest registration problem. Since 2021, the players must receive a pay cut.

Future revenue from television broadcasting rights has been sold and bank guarantees have been provided by board members in order to register new players.

"I don't think about the future, nor have I in the past, just for now. I spoke to Dani and Pau."

"Their situation, you can imagine, is not easy. However, they are positive. They want to play for this club."

"We'll see later when the decision has been made, then I will think about it. However, at this time I am positive. I know this is not easy, but in the end I am positive," said Flick again.

Despite being late for the deadline of December 31, 2024, Barcelona continues to seek to register Olmo and Victor through the sale of the VIP Camp Nou area worth 100 million euros, which will help them comply with La Liga's economic regulations.

Barcelona will not provide further explanation until the two players are registered, although previously promised to explain everything on January 3, 2024.

The club also doesn't consider a scenario where Olmo and Victor are not registered.

However, La Liga said earlier this week that Barcelona had not provided sufficient guarantees that they were able to comply with the regulations because they were late in meeting the deadline.

Barcelona have also applied for a new license for Olmo and Victor to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), although the rules state players cannot be re-registered with the same team for the second time in the same season.

A source at RFEF also said that they could not process any licenses without the previous approval of La Liga.

This story makes Olmo and Victor's future in the near future very doubtful given the possibility they will not be able to play for Barcelona again until next season.
