Syria Claims Succeed In Shooting Down Israeli Air Strike Missile Over Damascus Sky

JAKARTA - Israel has launched another missile attack on Syrian territory, with air defenses shooting down the missile in the skies over the capital Damascus, Syrian news agency SANA said Friday local time.

"The Israeli enemy carried out airstrikes from the southeast of Beirut, targeting several points around the city of Damascus", a Syrian military source was quoted as saying in a statement published on state television.

Syrian TV shows scenes of air defenses shooting targets over the city of Damascus.

"Our air defenses confronted the aggressor missiles and shot down most of them, and losses were limited to material", the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military declined to comment on the reported attacks in Syria. Last month, Israel's attack on Syria drew harsh criticism from Lebanese Defense Minister Zeina Akar.

On August 20, Israeli airstrikes targeted several targets in the city of Damascus and several other targets in the city of Homs.

Lebanese Defense Minister Zeina Akar condemned the attack, saying it blatantly violated Lebanese airspace at low altitude, causing panic among residents.

"The attack violates UN Security Council resolution 1701, to resolve the 2006 Lebanon war", Akar said.

He also asked the United Nations to prevent Israel from carrying out airstrikes in Syria using Lebanese airspace. Akar said he had sent a complaint to the United Nations.
