PDIP-Gerindra Denies Discussing The 2024 Presidential Election, Agrees To Strengthen Parliament To Support The Government In Overcoming COVID

JAKARTA - The PDI-P and Gerindra Party have both agreed not to discuss the 2024 election in a meeting on Tuesday, August 24 today. Gerindra and PDIP are more focused on handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was stated by the Secretary-General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, and Secretary-General of Gerindra, Ahmad Muzani, to the media crew at the meeting location.

"For the 2024 election, from an ideological perspective, we both commit Pancasila. Later after this pandemic, we can get through it together, there is momentum, there is time to discuss these things. Because the priority scale in the interests of the people, the safety of the nation and the state", said Hasto.

Muzani said that currently his party and PDIP chose to discuss strategic matters, not political interests. PDIP and Gerindra talked about the need for support from the government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because the current situation is not easy. So that the government's position needs to be strengthened, at least in parliament.

"There needs to be a strengthening of the government, at least what we have is political power in the House of Representatives. That's what we will continue to give to the government in handling this COVID-19 pandemic", explained Muzani.

"We don't talk about anything else (Election 2024, ed) because in our opinion the safety of the people, the safety of the country above all else. And the safety of all of us must continue to be a strong united country. because in our opinion this is the most vital thing", concluded Muzani.

The two parties met at the executive board of PDIP headquarters on Diponegoro Street, Menteng, Central Jakarta. The ranks of the PDIP executive board are led by Hasto, along with the party leadership. They are Komarudin Watubun, Yasonna Laoly, Utut Adianto, Eriko Sotarduga, Ahmad Basarah, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Sri Rahayu, Bambang Wuryanto, Sadarestuwati, and Nusyirwan Soedjono.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of Gerindra, Ahmad Muzani, came with 9 leaders in the Gerindra executive board. Among them are Prasetio Hadi, Puti Sari, Susi Marleni, Andre Rosiade, and Moreno Soeprapto.
