Amran Sulaiman Threatens to Cancel Business Permits for Manipulation of Feed and Egg Prices

SURABAYA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has taken a firm stance against parties who try to manipulate feed and egg prices in the national market. Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman threatened to curb or revoke the business licenses of speculators in order to maintain price stability and protect the people's farmers.

The firm threat was conveyed by the Minister of Agriculture after attending the National Meeting of the Veterinary Center (Pusvetma) Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday.

"For anyone who is caught playing around or taking advantage of the crisis, we will not hesitate to immediately revoke their business license," said Amran.

He added that for companies that were proven to violate the price provisions, the government would never grant or extend their import permits.

4 Strategic Steps of the Government to Stabilize the Poultry Industry

To ensure that the national poultry ecosystem runs fairly and transparently until the end of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture collaborates with the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and Perum Bulog through a number of supervisory instruments:

Task Force (Satgas) Deployment: The government launched a special Task Force to audit and inspect companies that are suspected of playing with feed and egg prices in the field. Maintain Feed Prices SPHP: Perum Bulog continues to maintain the distribution of feed for the Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) to maintain the stability of the production capital of farmers. Continuous Price Supervision: Bapanas and Bulog have drafted a strict price supervision mechanism until the end of the year. Uncompromising Sanctions: Those who are proven to have violated regulations will be immediately subject to administrative sanctions in the form of permanent revocation of operating permits.

Mandate for the Absorption of Farmers' Eggs by SPPG

In addition to price supervision, the government has also issued new rules and technical instructions that require the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) to absorb eggs directly from local farmers.

This step is designed so that the small farmer's egg market has a definite absorption (offtaker) at a reasonable price. Mentan said that currently more than 70 percent of the registered SPPGs have expressed their readiness and compliance to carry out the absorption obligation.

Amran emphasized that all of these policies are aimed at protecting farmers and the wider community, so that no speculators reap unnatural profits in the midst of a sensitive market condition.
