Taliban's Response To Controlling Afghanistan, PKS: Bullets Have No Eyes, Indonesian Citizens Must Be Evacuated

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI Sukamta asked the government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) to prioritize the safety of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Afghanistan.

"Currently, the priority of the Indonesian government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens. A number of Indonesian citizens are there, both working at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and those working in Afghanistan in general," said Sukamta in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, August 19.

This PKS politician added that the safety of Indonesian citizens must be a concern of the government even though there are security guarantees from the Taliban. However, like the bullet adigium that has no eyes, this situation must be watched out for, monitored for every Indonesian citizen's development. If possible, Indonesian citizens should be evacuated immediately.

In addition, he said, related to Indonesia's role in free and active foreign policy, the end of the war between the Taliban and the Afghan government, which was supported by the United States and NATO, left many problems.

"The Indonesian government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, needs to play an active role in peaceful reconciliation in Afghanistan. The war has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and soldiers, hundreds of thousands of refugees, damaged infrastructure, destroyed the economy, social and education of the Afghan people," he said.

According to him, Indonesia has good relations with Afghanistan, including the Taliban who currently control the country.

He considered Indonesia's strategic roles in the past to be the current capital to play a more active role in peace reconciliation efforts, rebuilding Afghanistan.

"The Taliban as the current ruler of Afghanistan must be responsible for rebuilding the country peacefully. The Indonesian government needs to play an active role in peaceful reconciliation in Afghanistan," he said.
