Commission XI Of The House Of Representatives Asks Apple To Invest In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Commission XI of the DPR RI asked technology companies from the United States, namely Apple, to realize the remaining investments and increase their contribution to the Indonesian economy.

Deputy Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri stated this because based on the audit, Apple had to fulfill approximately Rp. 300 billion more than the total investment commitment of Rp. 1.7 trillion.

This figure is very different from the proportion to support the development of the national economy compared to Apple's sales revenue which reached IDR 30 trillion in the country.

"This is not only a matter of numbers, but a matter of justice. With such a large income, Apple should make a real comparable contribution to support the development of the technology and digital ecosystem in Indonesia," said Hanif Dhakiri in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday, November 17.

He assessed that Apple's contribution to Indonesia's minimal economy shows the weak social responsibility of the company towards the country where they are reaping big profits.

Therefore, he also encouraged the government to officially summon Apple to Indonesia to provide an explanation of this inequality.

Furthermore, reviewing incentives and foreign investment policies, so that companies that get large profits in the country are required to make a more significant economic contribution, as well as draft regulations that encourage economic redistribution, such as increasing the level of domestic components (TKDN) for products marketed in Indonesia.

"If Apple does not immediately realize its commitments, even increase its contribution, the government must consider firm steps, including the evaluation of trade regulations and investments for foreign companies," he said.

According to him, Commission XI of the DPR is committed to continuing to oversee this issue so that the national interests and welfare of the community are top priorities, not just benefits for global companies.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) considered disabling the series number International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) for iPhone 16 products that were proven to be traded domestically.

This is because the latest series made by the giant Apple company has not been able to enter the domestic market, given the investment commitment that has not been completed by the corporation from the United States.

During 2023 and 2024, Apple has imported and sold 3.8 million units of mobile phone, handheld computer and tablet (HKT) products. If it is assumed that Apple's electronic devices are sold at an average price of IDR 5 million per unit, then the sales value for one year will reach IDR 19 trillion.
