Ribka Tjiptaning Reported To Bareskrim After Calling Suharto A "Killer Of Millions Of People"

JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Ribka Tjiptaning was reported to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police regarding his statement that mentioned the former President of the 2nd Republic of Indonesia, Suharto, as the killer of millions of people' in the polemic of the appointment of the deceased as a national hero.

The report was made by the Anti Hoax People's Alliance (ARAH) represented by its coordinator, Muhammad Iqbal. He said that Ribka Tjiptaning's statement had the potential to mislead the public and be included in the category of hate speech and the spread of fake news.

"We came here to make a police report regarding the statement of one of the PDIP politicians, namely Ribka Tjiptaning, who stated that Mr. Suharto was a killer related to the polemic of the appointment of the late Suharto as a national hero," said Iqbal at Bareskrim Polri, Jakarta, Wednesday 12 November 2025.

According to Iqbal, until now there has been no court decision stating that Suharto was proven to have killed millions of people.

"If it is true that the late Suharto killed millions of people, the question is where did he kill? Is there a legal decision that stipulates it? To this day no one's decision has stated so," he said.

ARAH reported Ribka to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, cyber section, with the alleged violation of Article 28 in conjunction with Article 45 of the ITE Law. The evidence attached to the provisional report is in the form of a video of Ribka's statement spread across various media and the TikTok platform.

The video, which is the basis for the report, said Iqbal, was uploaded on October 28, 2025, and was also reported by several national media.

Iqbal emphasized that the report did not represent the interests of the Cendana family or any party directly related to Suharto.

"We are not from the Cendana family. We are purely from the Anti Hoax People's Alliance. Our goal is that any information submitted by public figures, especially politicians, must be based on legal facts and not misleading the public," he said.

He added that the Anti-Hoax People's Alliance did not question the government's decision to designate Suharto as a national hero. However, regarding the statement of killing millions of people without a legal basis, it is considered spreading false news.

"We did not enter that realm. What we are questioning is the statement that Suharto killed millions of people without a legal basis. If it cannot be proven, then it includes fake news," concluded Iqbal.
