Polrestabes Bandung Names Student Suspect of Hit and Run that Killed Aiptu Asep

BANDUNG - The Bandung City Police have named a student with the initials A as a suspect in the hit-and-run case on Jalan Merdeka, Bandung City, Sunday (9/8) early morning, which resulted in the death of Bandung Police member Aiptu Asep Suharamening.

Head of the Bandung Police, Kombes Dedi Supriyadi, said that Aiptu Asep had an accident after participating in a patrol and on his way home.

"From the results of the crime scene investigation using traffic accident analysis, witness statements, and scientific crime investigation, the perpetrator was found to be a single person in the name of the suspect with the initials A," said Dedi as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 11.

Dedi explained that the suspect was driving a sedan belonging to a TNI member who he borrowed before the accident occurred.

Suspect A was previously at a cafe in the Simpang Lima area, Bandung City, with a number of his colleagues.

It is known that the suspect borrowed the vehicle to buy cigarettes. After that, the suspect drove the car until it hit a motorcycle driven by Aiptu Asep on Jalan Merdeka.

"(The victim) was hit from behind, from behind," he said.

After the accident, suspect A returned to the cafe and then went home with three of his colleagues.

Dedi also clarified information circulating on social media regarding the presence of two men and two women in the sedan when the incident occurred.

The police have matched the chronology based on surveillance camera (CCTV) footage, witness statements, and other investigation results.

"So, we straightened it out after the incident because we have authentic evidence with CCTV so that this incident becomes clearer," he said.
