Pramono Waits For Presidential Decree Before Publishing The Free Private School Gubernatorial Regulation

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is still waiting for a free private school Presidential Regulation (Perpres) before making a Governor Regulation (Pergub) related to the program.

"For Jakarta itself, we hope that this (Perpres) will have clarity quickly. So that Jakarta will immediately prepare itself," said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall, Friday, August 15.

Pramono said that currently the Jakarta Provincial Government has made 40 private schools free, so it is hoped that this program will soon have a legal umbrella.

"If there is an umbrella, namely the Presidential Decree, because this has been decided by the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi), then we will immediately expand it. And Jakarta can do that," he said.

Previously, the Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Taga Radja Gah, said that the implementation of trials or piloting of free private school programs had been carried out in 40 schools in Jakarta.

Even though he doesn't have a governor's regulation yet, Taga explained that the program is still run with the aim that every child can start going to school.

Taga also explained that this decision was made after discussing with the appointed private school.

After discussing with 40 private schools participating in the free school program, Taga said that all of them agreed with the decision even though there was no governor's regulation.

"For payments, they are waiting for the governor's regulation, and they understand. This is a collaboration between the community and the local government. Actually, this is to help areas that do not have public schools," said Taga.

Taga also said that all students were aware of the program. For students who have made payments, a statement is made and then the money will be returned when the funds from the local government have been disbursed.
