JAKARTA - The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered an inspection of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max aircraft after cracks were found in the structural components of older Boeing aircraft models.
"This airworthiness directive (AD) requires an inspection of the fuselage skin for existing repairs and actions based on applicable conditions. The FAA issued this AD to address unsafe conditions in these products," the FAA said, as quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, August 7. The statement said cracks were found on some old-generation 737 aircraft "on the tie-down at the upper front corner of the front galley door hole."
The cracks can grow over time due to the pressure generated during take-off and landing.
According to the statement, 471 737 Max 8, Max 9, and Max 8200 aircraft will undergo inspections. The directive came into effect on September 10.
