JAKARTA - Polish President Karol Nawrocki said he was open to discussing regulations that would allow for the legalization of same-sex relationships in Poland, but not same-sex marriage.
Nawrocki said this to his voters in the one-year anniversary of his term as president of Poland.
"I say that I am ready to discuss the status of 'close partner'. However, not as an alternative to Article 18 of the Constitution, which states that marriage is a bond between a woman and a man and is legally protected in Poland," he said, quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, August 7.
Nawrocki warned that the Polish people should not make the issue an ideology. He emphasized that the Polish government wants to help people who want to be in a "close partner" status, instead of imposing the ideology.
"Families have a special position in our constitution. As president, I am the guardian of the constitution. I am ready to talk about the position of someone close to me," he said.
However, Nawrocki said no one would agree to make the president of Poland or his citizens "crazy".
