JAKARTA - The eyes not only function as a sense of sight, but can also be a "window" to see a person's health condition.

As technology evolves, eye examinations are no longer limited to measuring minus or cylinders, but are also able to help detect early signs of various diseases more quickly and comfortably.

This innovation has begun to be widely applied in eye health services through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This technology allows the screening process to be carried out in minutes, so that people have a greater opportunity to know the condition of eye health early before symptoms develop into more serious conditions.

General Manager of Optics Operation Melawai James Hadisurjo said that although the trend of glasses continues to develop in line with the fashion world, the quality of eye health services remains a priority.

"We always strive to consistently maintain the quality of eye checks and lens quality. For us, eye health is the most important and we don't want to sacrifice it for consumers, then the fashion value follows," he said in a press conference for the Eye Wear Exhibition 45 Years Anniversary at Senayan City, Jakarta, recently.

One of the innovations that have begun to be introduced is the Retina Scan AI technology. Through retinal scanning without invasive procedures such as syringes, this technology is claimed to be able to help detect six eye diseases as well as eight chronic diseases with an examination time of less than five minutes.

The use of AI in eye examinations is considered to support the screening process or early detection of health-related issues in a more practical way. However, the results of the examination still need to be part of the evaluation of health workers to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment if there are indications of disorders.

The development of this technology also shows that eye examinations are increasingly oriented towards prevention efforts. Early detection is important because a number of eye diseases, such as glaucoma or retinopathy, often develop without clear symptoms in the early stages. In fact, changes in the retina can also provide clues about the general health of the body, including certain chronic diseases.

In addition to presenting more advanced examination technology, various eye health service providers have also begun to expand access to examinations through mobile services so that people in various regions have a greater opportunity to perform regular examinations.
