JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR from the Golkar faction, Mukhamad Misbakhun, assessed that the exchange of data for Indonesian citizens as part of Indonesia's trade cooperation with the United States (US) does not need to be debated until it becomes a polemic.
According to him, as long as the data is used selectively for trade purposes, there is nothing to worry about. Misbakhun said that the parties who were making transactions to find out their data for the transparency of the flow of goods in and out of the country's boundary areas was a natural thing to do.
"I believe the government, in this case the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) already knows the limits that should be guarded and protected regarding the data held by Indonesian citizens regarding the exchange of data according to the Personal Data Protection Law," Misbakhun told reporters, Monday, July 28.
"So there is no need to be a polemic about the exchange of data. Because in the trade system, international goods and services are normal," continued the East Java electoral district legislator.
The head of the DPR RI's financial commission believes that there is transparency of the parties who are making transactions to build credibility.
"In order to build mutual trust in the business aspect of payment transactions," said Misbakhun.
As is known, this issue was busy after the White House said that the Indonesian government would provide legal certainty related to the management of Indonesian citizens' personal data to the United States. This is part of a trade agreement between the two countries which was officially released on Monday, July 22, US time.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government stated that negotiations with the United States after the decline in trade rates by President Donald Trump were still ongoing.
