Foreign Minister Sugiono Wants Indonesia And Uzbekistan To Be A Locomotive For Inclusive Economic Growth

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono hopes that Indonesia and Uzbekistan will act as inclusive and sustainable economic growth locomtives, when receiving his call to prayer the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov.

The two foreign ministers chaired the 'The 2nd Joint Commission on Bilateral Consultation' (JCBC) meeting at the Pancasila Building, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, February 11.

The meeting agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors and discuss global and regional issues that are of common interest and produce Joint Statement which was jointly released on February 12, 2025.

The two countries affirm their commitment to encourage cooperation and investment in various strategic sectors, including infrastructure, mining, and tourism. They also encourage the process of establishing bilateral trade agreements between the two countries.

"Uzbekistan in Central Asia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia must play a location of growth' in encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday, February 11.

Furthermore, the two countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education, culture, sports, and relations between parliamentary institutions to strengthen relations between communities (people-to-people contact).

As a concrete step in strengthening bilateral cooperation, this meeting agreed on the 2025-2026 Action Plan, which will serve as a guide for the implementation of cooperation in various fields.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan signed a Diplomatic and Service Passport Free Agreement (PBVDD) to encourage increased interaction between officials and representatives of the two countries.

It is known that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uzbekistan have been going on for 32 years.

The first JCBC was held in 2009 in Jakarta. This second meeting marks the commitment of the two countries in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
